SUPER BOWL PICKS
It saddens me to do the write-up on the “final” game of the football season (I don’t count the Pro Bowl) as it means another football season has come and gone and now we will have to go through withdrawal as we wait for 7 months for the start of another football season.
I am very pleased with my playoff record, so far, as I am 7-3 ATS and 6-2 ATS on the over/unders.
I have to admit that this is a very difficult game for me to handicap as my heart is definitely with the Cardinals but my gut is telling me that the Steelers should win this game. On paper the Steelers have the more experienced Super Bowl players, as they have over 20 players with Super Bowl experience, the Cardinals only have 5 players with SB experience. Now you might say this is an irrelevant stat but this is the biggest game of the NFL season and the 2 weeks before the game is full of hype, interviews, media all over the place, and the players bombarded with questions about everything imaginable. So the edge definitely goes to the Steelers here. This is a classic match up, as it is the #1 defense against the #4 offense and the edge always seems to go to the defense. The Steelers will not make the same mistake that Philly did, they will not blitz Warner from the outside but straight up the middle where Warner is the most vulnerable, as he is a pocket passer. Big Ben on the other hand seems to pass better when he is under pressure and flushed from the pocket. Edge Steelers. The wide receivers edge definitely goes to the Cardinals, while the running game to me is pretty much a wash at this point as the Cardinals are finally playing James, who is finding holes in the line to run, as for the Steelers, Willie Parker is finally healthy enough to find running room too. So it comes down to the slogan of last year’s SB, “Who wants it more” the experienced Steelers or the surprising first-time Cardinals. My money has to be on the Steelers to cover the 7 point spread, but it wouldn’t break my heart if the Cardinals won J
My prediction – Pittsburgh 31 Arizona 21
As for the over/under which is currently at 47, the number seems a bit low to me as both teams have been averaging 30+ points in the playoffs. With that being said, I like the OVER A LOT !!!
Your SUPERBOWL winner from MOOSE the Greek
Well, I went 3-1 ATS the last time Liz was nice enough to give me some of her air time. That was week 1 of the “Playoffs, Playoffs, Don’t talk about Playoffs.” Oops, sorry, I can’t help but go into my Jim Mora impersonation when I say Playoffs. Anyway my only loser was the Colts, and they should have beaten the Chargers.
Now its time to wrap the season in a big bow and cash in with a BIG win on SUPERBOWL 43. Here are a few sure bets for the big day:
1. I will eat and drink like a wild hippopotamus.
2. I will NOT watch any pre game hoopla as I will be eating.
3. I will become one with the refrigerator.
4. Did I mention I will be eating plenty ????
Now for my game picks :
I like the ARIZONA CARDINALS plus the 7 points and I am taking OVER 47. Here are my reasons. I have cousins named Cardinal. I like pretty birds. I once got drunk in Arizona. But most of all I think it is their time. Kurt Warner will use this win to springboard himself into the HOF. I like the over because both teams will come out throwing and both teams will be rested and hungry. That is my story. “I am who I think I am.”
Again I want to thank Liz not only for the invite to share my 31 plus years of Football wagering knowledge with you but also for her stats and picks throughout the season. You did good Liz (for a Giants fan). Keep up the good work and I hope to see you on the web next year. Until then, drink heavily……
I want to do a shoutout to my long time friend, Kim H., who was nice enough to read my write-ups every week, and told me she enjoyed them. Thanks Kim !!
I want to thank my friend Moose for taking time to put his predictions in writing. If I hear from my friend Peter, I will post his pick too.
I look forward to doing this again next year. Thanks to all those who took the time to read my picks.
I will be back after the draft to give you my opinion on who got the best of the litter.
Take care and as the song goes “See you in September”
And as always bet with your head and not over it.
