Well, it’s been a busy summer but preseason is finally getting underway which means the regular isn’t far behind.(HOORAY)

I just wanted to make a few remarks about the Patriots and Jets draft picks and pickups from the draft and trades.

The Pats picked up Joey Galloway, Fred Taylor, Shawn Springs and Greg Lewis. These guys are all long in the tooth but Bill has a way of getting the most out of his veterans and with these guys it will only make the Pats that much stronger(like they need it ;)
I was a little perplexed about the Pats getting rid of Matt Cassell, Mike Vrabel and Rodney Harrison( I believe Rodney may have a serious injury) but hey whatever the Pats do, usually ends up a smart move, so we will just have to watch and see what happens this year.
As for their draft picks Patrick Chung a strong safety will probably get a chance to play rotating in for the missing Rodney Hampton. Ron Brace is a nose tackle that could see playing time subbing in for Vince Wilfork. Brandon Tate is a wide receiver who only played in 6 games in 2008, due to a right ACL/MCL injury, but what a receiving corps he gets to learn from.
The rest of the Pats draft picks are going to have a tough time getting a starting job on this star studded team. If your a Pats fan I’m sure your checking when the Super Bowl is this year.

As for the Jets, I said it in 2003 when the Giants gave away half their team and draft picks and an outrageous starting salary to Eli Manning that rookies are just that ROOKIES and they shouldn’t be paid more than what a veteran who has proven himself gets. This is exactly how I feel about Mark Sanchez. Sure he played for USC and sure USC had a great team and killed most of their opponents but they didn’t play the Pats or the Ravens or Titans, they played Cal and Oregon and Washington States etc. Almost any decent QB could play well against teams like that with the offensive line USC possesses. So I can only wish the Jets good luck with that pickup and hopefully the NY fans won’t crucify the poor guy before he gets half way thru the season, but only time will tell. The Jets also got Shonn Greene in the draft a power running back from Iowa, but he only had a handful of receptions in his 3 years at Iowa, so once again a
caution flag goes up on this pick. The trades the Jets made in the off season are also nothing to write home about. If you are Jets fan prepare yourself for a very bumpy ride this year, if Sanchez does play well, it’s a plus but I just don’t see the Jets heading to the Super Bowl, at least not this year.

As for the preseason, I do not pick or place bets on preseason games as you can never predict how long the veterans will play or if the coaches care if they do win. With that being said we are only about a month away from Opening Day and this lady can’t wait :)
