Here we go with my Week 3 NFL picks.

My first top pick is going to the Baltimore Ravens laying 13 ½ points at home to the Cleveland Browns. These are 2 teams going in opposite directions, with the Browns really having no direction at all. The Ravens won and covered both games last year and if anything they look stronger offensively this year. The Ravens have won and covered both games this year while the Browns have lost both games this year, SU and ATS. I know picking the Ravens to cover this big number is a bit scary but in the first 2 games of the season Cleveland has been outscored 61-26 and Baltimore has scored 30+ points in their 2 games. I look for the Ravens defense to wake up this week and hold the poor Browns to under 14 points and with the offense scoring 30+ that makes it a cover. Lay the points.

My next pick goes to the Minnesota Vikings at home laying 7 points to the San Francisco 49ers. I know that Mike “the eyes” Singletary is very familiar with the Vikings but I just don’t think he has the team to beat the Vikings on the road in the Metrodome. I also know the Vikings are looking ahead to next week’s matchup with the Packers, but is the whole team looking ahead to that game or just Brett Favre?? The home team is 5-1 ATS in this series and that’s a trend I take seriously as they play on different surfaces. I don’t see Frank Gore breaking a 70 yard running play this week against the Vikings but I do see Adrian Peterson breaking one for a TD. It’s hard to go against Mr. Singletary as I have great respect for what he has done in SF, but he isn’t playing and that’s a good thing for the Vikings. Lay the points and take the home team.

This pick looks too easy and almost like a trap, but how can you go against a team that got humiliated at home last week playing a team that played so poorly the past 2 weeks. I’m taking the Philadelphia Eagles at home this week laying 9 points to the Kansas City Chiefs. Who will quarterback for the Eagles this week is still a mystery as I am writing this as Andy Reid has not tipped his hand yet so that is just added pressure on the Chiefs as they will have to prepare for multiple Philly QBs. The Eagles are 6-1 ATS following a double-digit loss at home, and they are 4-1 ATS as a home favorite. My opinion is whoever quarterbacks for the Eagles will still have a better game than what the Chiefs are up against with a very angry Eagles defensive unit that looked horrible last week. I will back the Eagles in this game as the Chiefs are just out of sync.

Well, I’m going with the Green Bay Packers on the road, this week at St. Louis, giving the Rams 6 ½ points. This game looks easy on paper too as the Rams have looked bad the first 2 weeks and Green Bay is coming off a loss to Cincy.
This is the Rams home opener and my guess is there will be more Packer fans there than Rams fans. The favorite in this series is a perfect 5-0 ATS the last 5 meetings and the Packers are 7-3 ATS the past 10 road games as a favorite. Look for the Packers to get back on track this week against a Rams team that is floundering right now.
As for games I like as regular plays I am leaning towards New Orleans -6 over Buffalo on the road and San Diego at home giving Miami 6, even though I hear the Tuna is going to be calling the plays. And I think Chicago giving 1 to Seattle on the road looks good too, without Hasselback I just don’t see Seattle generating much offense.
As for my over under picks I think one of the best bets today on the entire board is the over 44 in the New England/Atlanta game. I also like the over 51 ½ in the New Orleans/Buffalo game. I am also on board with the over in the New York Giants/Tampa Bay game.
As always bet with your head not over it

Liz,
I have to say you are right on with you picks today. What did you think of the Giant game. I did not see it down here in Dallas.

Guy,
The Giants looked unstoppable today, their running game was spot on and Eli made some key throws and Steve Smith made some key receptions. Tampa Bay looks awful, which made the Giants look even that much better. At least the Giants finally got a touchdown from inside the red zone today
The G-men are off to a terrific start let’s hope it continues.
