My college picks 10-16-2009
Well, I didn’t start off too well this week losing my Boise State pick on a backdoor cover by Tulsa, but that’s why they call it gambling. Here are the rest of my college picks for this week.

My first best bet pick is on Nebraska at home against Texas Tech laying 10 ½ points. I’ve got to tell you that I have been on Nebraska a lot this year and for a very good reason, they are a perfect 5-0 ATS this year and I don’t see that changing this week in their conference home opener against Texas Tech.
Nebraska is an impressive 31-1 SU in conference home openers so look for them to be amped up for this game. Also, I’m not sure if Taylor Potts is going to play for Texas Tech, due to a concussion, but something tells me he will play but how effective he will be is another story. Lay the 10 ½ points here as Nebraska keeps its perfect ATS season going.

Second on my list of picks is Ohio State on the road at Purdue laying 13 ½ points. I’ve had the honor of watching Purdue the past few weeks and they make a lot of mistakes which won’t bode well for them against OSU. Ohio State after the close game with Navy and the loss to USC has come back with 4 straight and ATS spread wins and are looking very strong here. OSU is 4-0 ATS the last 4 games as a favorite of 10 ½ points or more and are 17-4 ATS the last 21 games on the road as a favorite. Also the favorite in this series is 7-3 ATS the past 10 meetings. I look for Ohio State to take control of this game in the first half and coast the 2nd half. Lay the 13 ½ points and take Ohio State.

My next pick goes to BYU on the road at San Diego State laying 17 points. This is a lot of points to lay on the road but BYU is 4-1 ATS the last 5 meetings between these 2 teams and the favorite in this series is also 4-1 ATS the past 5 meetings. BYU has also won the last 3 contests by a combined 136 to 56 and I just don’t see that changing here. BYU is by far the better team and should have little trouble with the Aztecs. Lay the 17 points and take BYU.

This next best bet goes to Buffalo at home giving Akron 8 points. I’m not always comfortable picking a game where both teams have losing records but Akron is in BIG trouble. Akron is down to a 3rd string red shirt freshman QB, Patrick Nicely, and he is coming into a very tough place to play against a decent Buffalo defense. Look for Buffalo to win this game against an awful Akron offense. Lay the 8 points as this one shouldn’t be close. And an added stat, Akron is 0-4 ATS the past 4 contests between these two teams.

My last best bet goes to Ohio U at home laying 13 ½ points to Miami, Ohio.
I just have to make Ohio U a top choice as they are playing a team without a win this year and to make matters worse, Miami, Ohio has very little offense.
Ohio U is on a roll right now, winning the past 2 games on the road and after a 3 game road trip they come home to face a winless team. Top it off with Ohio U winning and covering the past 3 games and you’ve got a best bet. Lay the 13 ½ points and take Ohio U.
Other games I like but not as strong, Air Force minus 10 ½ at home to Wyoming. I also like Mississippi minus 22 at home to rebound against UAB.
I am leaning towards Miami, Fl on the road to cover the 14 ½ points at Central Florida. I also like Alabama at home to win and cover the 17 points against South Carolina. And last but not least, I like East Carolina to cover the 17 ½ points at home against Rice.
I do like a few dogs this week. I think Iowa getting 2 ½ points from Wisconsin on the road is a live dog. Also like Kansas State at home getting 5 ½ from Texas A&M. I think Florida Atlantic on the road at North Texas getting 2 points is also a live dog. (I’ve always liked Howard Schnellenberger, so I hope they win this game outright, his team could sure use it). I also think that Middle Tennessee State can stay within the 4 ½ points they get from Mississippi State.
Well I did well picking 4 over bets last week so I’m trying it again.
Bowling Green/Ball State over 54, UAB/Mississippi over 53 ½,
Missouri/Oklahoma State over 56 and USC/Notre Dame over 49
Well, that’s it for another week, I will be back shortly with my pro picks.
As always bet with your head not over it.
