Week 5 College Picks
I can’t believe it but last week I actually was a perfect 4-0 ATS on my over/under picks. Also, I’m still over .500 on my regular plays and best bets. I hope to keep this streak alive with my picks for this week.
My first pick this week goes to a very hot team right now and that is the Nevada Wolfpack on the road laying 20 ½ points to UNLV. Nevada is a red hot team right now, they won last week by 14 points at BYU and my guess is, playing at BYU has to be much more difficult then playing at UNLV, in their home state, and only laying 6 1/2 points more. The Wolfpack is on a 4-0 ATS streak as road favorites of more than 10 ½ points and I see that streak going to 5-0. Nevada is also on a 5-0 ATS streak playing UNLV. I see no reason that Nevada won’t win this game by at least 4 TDs. Lay the points and make this a best bet.
My second pick this week goes to UTEP on the road at New Mexico laying 15 points. I just can’t think of another way to put this but New Mexico has 2 of the worse teams in the NCAA this year, in New Mexico and New Mexico State. This week UTEP comes into New Mexico a 3-1 team with aspirations of vying for the Conference USA West title, of course they will have to get past Houston to do it. This week however, should put a W in the win column for the Miners as the Lobos lost by 35 points last week at home to UNLV. Also, the Lobos won’t have their QB, Holbrook, this week, who is out with a knee injury. If UTEP is a better team than UNLV, and they won by 35, then 15 points should be a piece of cake to cover.
My next choice is TCU on the road at Colorado State laying 33 ½ points. I know these point spreads are getting astronomical but the polls not only look at, if a team wins, but by how much, which leads to teams scoring more points then they need to, to win. For teams like TCU and Boise State scoring a lot of points is necessary to stay in the Top 25 and even more so being in the Top 10. TCU is ranked number 5 in the nation right now so they must keep winning and winning big. Also, TCU is 5-1 ATS the last 6 games against the Rams and with the team TCU has this year they will be able to win and cover this huge spread.
Next pick goes to Maryland at home laying 7 ½ points to Duke. Maryland’s QB, Danny O’Brien, has thrown for 5 TDs and has no INTs and the Terrapins are a quiet, 3-1 SU and ATS. Duke however, is 1-3 SU and ATS and their only win came against ELON (WHO????). With Maryland at home and holding a 3-1-1 ATS record against Duke, I look for Maryland to win this game and win it by at least 14 points, maybe more.
Last pick this week goes to Baylor coming home after a 2 game road trip giving Kansas 9 points. Last time these 2 teams met was 2007 when Kansas demolished Baylor 58-10, and with Baylor, in my opinion, having the better team this year, I think payback is coming. Baylor is on a 5-0 ATS streak when favored by 3 ½ to 10 points and this number falls right in that streak. Add in the revenge factor and you’ve got a 2 possibly 3 TD win for the Baylor Bears. Lay the 9 points, I love revenge matches.
There are a few underdogs I like this week, and without further delay here are my picks. I like 2 service academies, I like Army at home getting 5 points from Temple and I like Navy on the road getting 10 points from the Air Force. Also, Arizona State on the road at Oregon State getting 3 ½ points. And last but not least I like Kentucky on the road getting 3 points from Mississippi.
I have a few over/unders this week I like – On Thursday, I like the over 66 in the Texas A&M/Oklahoma State game. The over 51 in the Ohio State/Illinois game, the over 62 ½ in the Nevada/UNLV game. And finally I like the over 60 ½ in the Boise State/New Mexico State game.
I have a few leaning towards, the UCLA Bruins at home giving Washington State 27 points, Auburn at home giving Louisiana Monroe (ULM) 35 points. I am leaning towards my Smurfs (Boise State) again this week, on the road at New Mexico State to cover the 43 ½ points. I like Michigan on the road at Indiana laying 10 points. And finally I like Ohio State on the road giving Illinois 16 ½ points.
I will be back again on Saturday night with my pro picks.
As always bet with your head not over it.
