Well, here we are the last football game for about 6 months, bummer 9
I invited Moose the Greek to give his opinion on the Super Bowl, my opinion and pick will follow. I am very happy though that the cream rose to the top and the best 2 teams this year are in the big game. This is the first time in 16 years that both number 1 seeds have been in the Super Bowl, the 2 teams were Buffalo and Dallas, in case you wanted to know. The only thing that would have made this game even bigger is if both teams came into this game undefeated. Without further adieu, here’s Moose the Greek and his pick.

SUPERBOWL picks from “MOOSE the Greek”

Here it is, the last game of the year. GOOD. For the last five plus months I have been eating too much, drinking too much, and betting too much. Now Spring and Baseball ( my YANKEES) are just around the corner. BUT, before we can enjoy Posada, A-Rod, and Jeter we have to finish off the NFL Season with a BIG win……… That is why Liz has been kind enough to ask me for my Superbowl pick. Well here we go ……………

This is a tough pick for me because I like both teams and both QB’s. The Colts and Manning have the experience. The Saints and Brees have the likability factor as they represent New Orleans and what that carries with it. Both teams have great receivers. I give the Colts the edge on defense and the Saints the edge on running backs. Both coaches seem to get things right. All of this makes betting this game not so easy….

The line has been moving since it opened. As of 2/05/10 at 10:05AM on Yahoo the line is COLTS minus 5 and the Over – Under 57 – So here is what the Greek has to say about the game……..

I am taking the COLTS and UNDER in Superbowl XLIV ….. My reason for this bet is ‘A GUT FEELING ‘. That’s all I can say. I think you throw out the stats, and the records, and all the hype and go with your GUT ………………… THAT IS MY TAKE.

Again THANK YOU Liz for letting me ride your coat tails this year. It has been fun. Also GOOD LUCK to any poor bastard who comes across this site and follows my pick. I will be concentrating on the following on Superbowl day ( in no specific order ).. FOOD, BEER, SQUARE POOLS, FOOD, A NAP, FOOD, BEER, AND FOOTBALL……

So long my friends and I hope you all have the final score square in your office pool.

Thanks Moose, and now my picks on the Super Bowl.

Current line as of this writing is Colts 4½ with an O/U of 56½.
To me there is only one way to look at this game, it’s the Saints defense against Peyton and the Colts defense against Brees. Both teams have exceptional offenses and opportunistic defenses. I know that a lot is being made of Dwight Freeney’s injury and whether he will be effective or not in this game, but I believe there are 11 players on defense <smirk> and even though he won’t be 100% there are 10 other players, who could pick up the slack. The Saints have Shockey with a knee injury and their cornerback Malcolm Jenkins has a hamstring issue, but not much is being made of their injuries. I do think that the Saints will keep this game close in the first half but after Manning figures out what the Saints’ defense is doing, he will find a way to win this game. So the question is will the Colts cover and will this be the high scoring game everyone thinks it’s going to be. Here are a few stats that helped me make up my mind. The Colts are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 playoff games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0. They are also 9-1-1 ATS the last 11 games on grass, even though they are a dome team. On the flip side, the Saints are 1-4 ATS their last 5 playoff games, they are also 1-3-1 ATS the last 5 games as an underdog. As for O/U stats, the over stats are amazing, the over is 5-0-1 ATS in the Saints last 6 playoff games, the over is 5-1 ATS for the Colts the last 6 games overall, they are also 4-1 ATS over the total the last 5 games as a favorite. And the last stat is a bit misleading, as we all know the Saints aren’t exactly a perennially Super Bowl participant as this is the first time for them in the big game but I will give it to you anyway, the favorite in this match up is 4-0 ATS the last 4 times these 2 teams have played. So with all that being said I look for the Indianapolis Colts to win and cover and for this game to squeak over the total. My prediction is the Indianapolis Colts 34-24.

As always bet with your head not over it : )

What a SUPER weekend for me, I hit all 4 bets this weekend. I had the Colts and over and the Vikings and over. And I even had the exact score on the Vikings game although I had the wrong team winning, but if Favre could have finished that last drive, it would have been spot on. Moose the Greek went 3 for 4 just missing the Saints by a ½ point or 1 point in some areas. Thanks again Moose for coming back strong this weekend. I must admit you did say that Favre would throw an INT at a crucial point in the game and he sure did !! Thanks again, Moose and I hope you come back one more time for your take on the Super Bowl.

Let me just put a question out there to people reading this…Why the hell did the NFL put the Pro Bowl in the off week leading up to the Super Bowl??? Did they think for one minute that the 2 teams in the Super Bowl would actually let any of their pro bowlers go to Hawaii for this game, my answer would be NO. Did they think that maybe just maybe that NFL fans would like to see the Super Bowl teams pro bowlers play in the Pro Bowl, my answer would be YES. If you have a different opinion please let me know because to me this was probably the most moronic decision the NFL has ever made. OK, I’m off my soap box and onto my picks.

What can I say, we are now only 2 games away from the Super Bowl and unfortunately the end of another football season.

I am bringing back Moose the Greek this week to redeem himself for his picks last week. I have the greatest confidence that the Greek will come back strong this week. His picks will be before mine.

More PICKS from MOOSE the Greek

After my picks last week I had two choices. The first was to do a hand stand on the Menands bridge railing. The second was to try to pick the games this week. Well back in 1975 I did do a hand stand on the Menands bridge railing and it was pretty easy. So I decided to pick this week’s games, which is much harder. So here are my picks for the Championship games.

The early game Sunday has the Jets at the Colts. I think this is an easy pick. The Jets have been lucky so far. It runs out this week. Payton Manning will dance and pass. Wayne, Garcon, and Collie will sprint and catch. Freeney and Brock will tackle and sack. That will be the story. It won’t be pretty for Ryan’s gang green nation. Sanchez will feel the wrath of a very good Indy defense. So my pick for this game is….. The INDIANAPOLIS COLTS minus the 7½ to end the Jets over achieving season. Final score will be in the neighborhood of Colts 31 Jets 13

Onto the nightcap, and a tough game to pick. As much as I dislike Brett Favre and the Vikings they have played well. But that being said, I think from the start of the season it has been coming down to New Orleans vs. the Colts. I think Drew Brees and company will do what needs to be done. If the offensive line can keep Brees safe from the Vikings great pass rush, and I think they will, Drew will have his way with the Viking secondary. The Saints have too many weapons to handle and that will be the difference. Of course Favre will also throw two crucial interceptions and that will tie a bow around it for the Saints. So in game number two I like the NEW ORLEAN SAINTS minus the 3½ to send Favre and company home to Mama. The final will be around
Saints 38 Vikes 17

That’s it from the Greek this week. Thank You Liz for giving me a chance at redemption. If my picks go bad this week look for me on the Menands bridge.

This is MOOSE the Greek wishing you good football, good eats, cold beer, and a profitable weekend………..

Thanks Moose for your picks and now here are mine.

This weekend poses a lot of problems for me, as only once since 2003 has the point spread come into play in this round, either the underdog wins outright or the favorite wins and covers. You should also know that in the last 8 years in the conference finals the games have gone over the total in 12 of the 16 games.
Also I can’t remember the last time or even if it happened at all, the weather wasn’t an issue in the conference finals as both games will be played in domes.

In the AFC Championship game, the Indianapolis Colts are giving the New York Jets 7½ points, with the over/under number at 39. JETS, JETS, JETS that’s all we’ve heard this week and I for one think enough is enough, ya know the Colts are in this game too and believe it or not they do have the better team. The Colts have Peyton Manning, the Jets Mark Sanchez, to me this is where the game will decided. The Colts played a similar team last week in the Ravens. The Ravens had a strong running game, strong defense, but a weak passing game, sound a lot like the Jets?? The Colts shutdown the Ravens running game and forced Flacco to beat them, it didn’t happen last week and I believe it won’t happen this week as Sanchez is even more green than Flacco. I know the Jets are in this game mostly because the Colts let them win the game that they were leading at halftime in and now they face this same team, and the Jets think they can beat the Colts again. I’m not particularly fond of giving the Jets 7½ points but like I said the line very rarely comes into play so I am taking the Indianapolis Colts laying the points. And to my surprise the last 8 times these 2 teams have met they topped 39 points 7 times, and they scored 38 in the other game, so I am going with the over 39 as the stronger play in this game. I’m looking at a 28-14 game.

In the NFC Championship game, the New Orleans Saints are giving the Minnesota Vikings 3½ points with the over/under number at 52½. This is the way the season should have come down, the top 2 teams in the conference playing for a right to go to the Super Bowl. I must admit this is a very hard game for me to pick as I would not have a problem with either team winning this game. I am not a disbeliever in Brett Favre as my counterpart Moose is so I am going to go against my friend and pick the Vikings to upset the Saints in New Orleans and I do have a few reasons. Minnesota has won and covered the past 4 meetings between these 2 teams and 3 of those games were played in New Orleans, also 3 of those games went over the 52½ total. Favre is definitely the more experienced QB and the Vikings pass rush is the best in the league, so if they can get to Brees and disrupt his rhythm, the Vikings could win this game, but I do see this game staying within the 3½ points. I also like the over 52½ once again as the stronger play. Take the Minnesota Vikings and the over.
I’m looking at a Minnesota 31-28 game.

Once again I want to thank Moose the Greek for his giving us his picks. I hope we’ve given our readers good stats and opinions on these games, and everyone wins some money this weekend.

As always bet with your head not over it : )

Well, I sure hope we can give you as many winners this weekend as we did last weekend. And to make sure you have the best of the best I asked my good friend Moose the Greek to weigh in this weekend with his top picks. And here they are right from Moose the Greek to you !!

DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF picks from ‘ MOOSE the Greek ‘

First a big Thank You to Liz for letting me share my thoughts and picks with you this week and also Thank You Liz for your picks and insights into all the games this season. I, like many others, look forward to your input every week.

Now onto the games, I like two games this weekend.

The first is the DALLAS/MINNESOTA game at 1pm on Sunday.
On paper this looks like a good game. Two good QBs, two good defenses, and two balanced offenses. However, I see it like this. The Vikings will fold like a cheap suit, they will stumble like a drunken sailor. The Vikings will end up like Leif Ericsson……. BELLY UP !!!!!!!!!!! Brett Favre will do what he does best, he will throw interceptions. He will think about himself and NOT the team, he will stink. So, with that being said….. My 10 Antler pick this week is the DALLAS COWBOYS plus the 2.5 points, which they won’t need. Tony Romo and company will move on to the Championship round.

The other game I like is the JETS/CHARGERS game at 4:40pm on Sunday.
This game COULD be a blowout. The Jets and Mark Sanchez might just crumble on national TV. I think the Jets got lucky against a badly coached Bengals team last week. Rex Ryan has the defense playing good but the offense will be needed big time in this game and I don’t see Sanchez and crew doing their part. In this game I give you the SAN DIEGO CHARGERS minus the 7 points to send the J – E – T – S, Jets back to the swamps of Jersey with Jimmy Hoffa and a few of the Soprano family enemies…..

That is it for this week. Until next time remember to eat too much, drink too much, and bet too much. MOOSE the Greek out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Moose for your always amusing picks on these 2 games. I must admit I am on board with your picks, but I can’t say I dislike Brett as much as you do : )

As for the over/unders on the Dallas/Minnesota and Jets/Chargers games. I like the over 42 in the Jets/Chargers game and I am just leaning towards the over in the Dallas/Minnesota game.

Well now that Moose has weighed in on those 2 games let me give you my picks on the other 2 games, which will be played on Saturday.

What can you say about this game that doesn’t scream bet the over ?? These 2 teams have suspect defenses but offenses that even Arena football would envy. With that being said, you know that in this game I believe the over 57 is the better bet. The Cardinals surprised me last week shredding one of the best defenses in the league this year for 51 points, if Warner is given that much time again this weekend then the sky is the limit and that goes for Brees as well, who will go against a Cardinals defense that gave up 45 points last week. To me the last one to score in this game will be the winner and with the Cardinals ya gotta love them getting a touchdown. Oh and by the way the Cards did it last week without Boldin. Of the 4 games being played this weekend I’m looking forward to this game the most as it should be as entertaining as last week’s Cardinals/Packers game. Take the 7 points with the Arizona Cardinals and enjoy the aerial show that both teams will give us. And like I said I love the over 57.

The Saturday night game pits the Baltimore Ravens against the Indianapolis Colts. This is the Ravens 4th straight road game and even though they won the past 2, I just don’t know how much gas they have left in the tank for a Colts team that is definitely well rested. The Ravens are 0-6 ATS the last 6 times these 2 teams have met and I just don’t see that changing this weekend. I look for Peyton to get rid of the ball quickly and dink and dunk his way down the field. The Ravens have to rely on their running game with Ray Rice, Willis McGahee, and Le’Ron McClain, if the Colts stop the running game of the Ravens, then it’s on Joe Flacco’s shoulders and that could spell trouble as the Colts are number 1 in the NFL allowing only 9.1 yards per pass completion this year. Plain and simple if the Ravens can’t run, they can’t win. I look for this to be a close game with the Colts pulling away in the 4th quarter to give them the win. Look for the Colts to cover the 6 ½ points and move on to the Championship game against the Chargers…as it should be : ) As for the over/under in this game, I don’t have a good feeling this will be high scoring affair and look for the game to go under the 44 point total.

Thanks again to Moose the Greek for his picks this weekend.

As always bet with your head not over it : )

I must admit this is the first time since I’ve been watching football that 3 games pit the same 2 opponents against each other in the playoffs. I also find it difficult to come up with different results. I know, there has never been a weekend where I liked more underdogs than favorites. With that being said here are my picks for this weekend’s playoff games.

My first playoff pick this weekend is the New York Jets on the road at Cincinnati getting 2½ points. I just don’t see how the Bengals are going to be able to regroup enough to beat the Jets this weekend. They still can’t stop the run, which the Jets do very well, and they still aren’t going to have enough time to throw to Ocho, as the Jets defense is awesome. So unless they were really playing to sucker the Jets into a false sense of superiority, I have to go with the hot team and that’s the Jets AND they are getting points, now that’s a bargain. Go with the Jets and take the 2½ points. I also like the over 33½.

My second pick on Saturday is the Dallas Cowboys at home giving the Philadelphia Eagles 4 points. This is probably the toughest game for me to pick as I know Andy Reid will come back with a game plan that will keep this game a whole lot closer than last week’s game. But with that being said, and the fact that we all know that Tony Romo is a choke artist I still have this feeling that the Boys are playing with a purpose right now because that game last week did mean something to both teams and the Boys played like it and the Eagles didn’t. So I am going to stick my neck out here and take the Cowboys at home minus the 4 points. Once again I like the over 45 in this game.

On Sunday I must admit if this wasn’t a home game for the Pats and a road game for the Ravens it would be a much easier pick, but with the Pats having a perfect 8-0 record at home and the Ravens with a 3-5 road record, it makes it a lot more difficult. We know Welker is going to be out for the Patriots and that hurts, but how much is the question. The line on this game opened at 4 and I’ve seen a line as low as 1½, the current line is 3½ so it seems that the betting public think the Ravens will keep this close and I must admit so do I. The Patriots will win this game but the score won’t be a blowout. I like the Baltimore Ravens with the 3½ pts. I am leaning toward the over in this game, according to the weather report it will be sunny and in the low 20’s with very little wind, so with an over of 43 I think it is doable.

The last game of the weekend is my best bet. I love the Green Bay Packers to win this game outright and the point they are getting, is just a small added bonus. Whether or not the Cardinals cared about last week’s game or not, they will find it hard to turn it back on against these Packers. The Cardinals are only 4-4 at home this year while Green Bay is 5-3 on the road. The Cardinals are also hurting in the secondary where Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is listed as questionable and their outstanding wide receiver, Anquan Boldin, is also listed as questionable. Green Bay is definitely the hungrier team here and they are my best bet of the weekend. As for the over/under I am leaning toward the over, which of course should not surprise anyone, who reads my picks.

As always bet with your head not over it.
